چکیده

The response of transgenic Nicotiana tabacum L. plants carrying the gene for potyviral non-structural P3 protein to Potato virus Y (strain NTN) infection was not significantly different from the wild type. The activities of antioxidant enzymes catalase (CAT), glutathion reductase (GR), ascorbate peroxidase (APOD) and superoxid dismutase (SOD), determined in systemically infected leaves at early stages of the infection did not change except for the transient increase in CAT and GR activities in the wild type infected plants compared to the healthy ones. At the stages, when severe symptoms of the infection developed on the leaves and the virus content reached its maximum, a significant increase in the activities of several enzymes of anaplerotic metabolic pathways, NADP-dependent malic enzyme (NADP-ME), phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase 124 Doubnerová et al.

Induction of Resistance to Potato Virus Y (PVY) Using Hairpin Construct of Coat Protein

Potato virus Y (PVY) is one of the most damaging viruses of potato plants which infecting most cultivars and causing significant yield and economical losses. The application of the concept of pathogen derived resistance opened new horizons for the development of virus-resistant plants. This research was carried out to study RNA silencing to engineered potato plants that are resistant to potato ...

Responses of Transgenic Tobacco (Nicotiana plambaginifolia) Over-Expressing P5CS Gene Underin vitroSalt Stress

Salinity is a major limiting factor for plant growth and development. To evaluate the impact of P5CS gene expression under in vitro salt stress condition, transgenic tobacco (Nicotiana plumbaginifolia) carrying P5CS gene and non-transgenic plants were treated with 0, 100, 150, 200 or 250 mM NaCl for 28 days. Proline content, lipid peroxidation and the activity of some antioxidant enzymes after ...

Expression of an epitope-based recombinant vaccine against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMDV) in tobacco plant (Nicotiana tabacum)

Regarding high potential of green plants for development of recombinant vaccines, this research was conducted to evaluate expression of a novel recombinant vaccines against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMDV) in tobacco plant. For this purpose, a synthetic gene encoding 129-169 amino acids of foot and mouth disease virus capsid protein VP1 was transferred to tobacco plant via Agrobacterium-mediated g...

Investigation on the reaction of Iranian oriental and semi oriental tobacco genotypes to Potato Virus Y (PVY) under controlled conditions

Potato virus Y (PVY) as one of the serious diseases on tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.), reduces leaf yield and its quality. Use of re-sistant genotypes is being considered as the most effective, economical and a safe way to reduce damages of the virus. In the present study, the response of 90 oriental and semi-oriental tobacco genotypes was evaluated against PVY using randomized complete block d...
